My Story
About Denise
I’m Denise Cicchella; author, speaker, teacher, auditor by training, storyteller by instinct, and a lifelong student of how people learn, lead, and step into their own authority. For more than twenty years, I’ve worked at the intersection of risk and readiness; where questions matter, trust is earned, and clarity can change the course of an organization or a life.
My professional foundation was built deliberately. I earned a Bachelor of Business Administration in Accounting from Loyola University Maryland, followed by a Master of Business Administration in International Business from Fairleigh Dickinson University in New Jersey. Those years shaped how I think; disciplined, global in perspective, grounded in numbers, yet always attentive to the people behind them.
As a Certified Fraud Examiner, Certified Internal Auditor, Certified Construction Auditor, and Corporate Trainer, I’ve spent over two decades working across banking, finance, insurance, consultancy, healthcare, and education. I’ve stood in boardrooms and classrooms, on construction sites and conference stages, watching systems strain under pressure and people rise to meet it. I have even secured my Series 7 and Project Management Professional certification, though these are currently parked. I thrive on the opportunity to stay abreast of new topics, trends and hotspots in the industries I service.
I believe that relationships are the key to all success. Mentoring, training, coaching and development are fundamental ways that impact the lives of individuals and the prosperous development of organizations. They are also two way streaks. That is why I like to surround myself with people who are as committed to growth and integrity as I am. This community, built on mutual respect and the shared pursuit of excellence, inspires me daily and forms the backbone of every project and partnership I undertake. It is through these connections—whether forged in boardrooms, classrooms, or over quiet cups of coffee—that I’ve witnessed the most meaningful progress, both professionally and personally. Together, we cultivate environments where learning is continuous, trust is carefully nurtured, and everyone is encouraged to step confidently into their own authority.
My books reflect these dualities.
Some are built like scaffolding; strong, practical, and designed to carry weight.
Construction Audit Guide: Overview, Monitoring and Auditing, Construction Audit: Building a Solid Foundation, and Effective Auditing for Corporates are written for professionals who need clarity when complexity multiplies and decisions have real consequences.
Others focus on connection and leadership.
Bridging the Gap explores the evolving relationship between internal audit and the audit committee; a relationship that flourishes when trust, transparency, and shared purpose take center stage.
And then there is Teach, Train, Transform: The Superhero Way; the heartbeat of my work as an educator. It’s a reminder that confidence is not a personality trait; it’s a practice. Teaching, training, and leading are acts of courage, and every effective educator carries a quiet superpower; presence.
Across all of my work runs a single belief; learning should change something.
How you think.
How you speak.
How you can be a better version of you,
How you show up when it matters most.
Outside the professional pages, my life is slower and rooted. I live on a smallholding in England, with my husband, Stuart Gardner, where seasons are noticed, patience is practiced, and the world feels refreshingly honest. A former pounder of the concrete jungle working in New York City, my live brings me scenes and views that help me attain a love and appreciation for serenity and tranquillity. I’m rarely without a camera; photography keeps me attentive to light, texture, and moments that would otherwise slip by. And if there’s a constant in my days, it’s animals; especially my two dogs, Queenie and Bobby, who are daily reminders that presence, loyalty, and joy don’t need credentials.
This is not a loud place, but it is a purposeful one.
A place for auditors, leaders, educators, and quiet powerhouses who know that competence is only the beginning; and that true authority comes from understanding both the system and the self.
If you’re here, you’re likely navigating complexity; professional, personal, or both. You may be refining your craft, rebuilding trust, or stepping into a larger role than the one you were trained for.

Leave clearer, steadier, and a little braver than you arrived.

Where rigor meets courage.
Where we don’t just teach, train, or audit.
We transform.
